This is the drawer you raid mid-build: resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, MOSFETs, voltage regulators, relays, crystals, connectors and the small passives that quietly decide whether a circuit works. Prices start from a few shillings a piece, and most of these are things worth keeping a handful of rather than ordering one at a time.

A few pointers that save return trips. Resistors and capacitors are worth buying as an assorted kit first and topping up the values you burn through. For switching a load from a microcontroller pin, a logic-level MOSFET such as the IRLR2905 will do what a standard MOSFET cannot, because it turns fully on at 3.3V or 5V gate drive. If you are switching mains, use a properly rated relay module with opto-isolation rather than driving a bare relay coil from a GPIO pin. And when you are dropping a 12V supply to 5V, a switching regulator will run far cooler than a linear one under any real current.
